Update 11/14/07
Recently the Sedalia Democrat newspaper ran a story on Matthew's progress. It's a terrific article with pictures of Matthew standing and walking with the walker. The author of the article did a wonderful job describing the effort that goes into every step Matthew takes. As I read the article, I realized all the information I was going to put in this update is covered in the article so I urge you to access the link to see the pictures and read the story:

Just a few more updates from my conversation with the family earlier this week, Matthew is initiating more of his speech, especially in sentences. He also has increased his ability to make his wishes known and gives instructions to his family (in other words - tells his family what to do!!). He continues to grow stronger all the time. At times he can lift his whole right leg up while he's sitting in his chair - sometimes without realizing he did it.
The hole from the feeding tube has not completely closed yet, but it is healing.
At this time of the year, we often "take stock" of all the blessings our Lord has bestowed on us and give thanks to the giver of all good things. It is fitting to read/sing the hymn "We Praise You, O God" as we give thanks to God for what he does for each of us and what he continues to do for the Kurz family.
We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator;
In grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before You, we kneel and adore you;
We bless Your holy name, glad praises we sing.
We worship You, God of our fathers, we bless You;
Through trial and tempest our guide You have been.
When perils o'er take us, You will not forsake us,
And with Your help, O Lord, our struggles we win.
With voices united our praises we offer
And gladly our songs of thanksgiving we raise.
With You, Lord, beside us, Your strong arm will guide us.
To You, our great Redeemer, forever be praise!

Blessed Thanksgiving to you all!
