Matthew Kurz - Updates & Prayers

Periodic updates on Matthew's condition and ongoing prayers and words of encouragement for Matthew and his family.

Update - 5/30/06

Matthew accomplished some pretty positive things this weekend. He has been told that his right hand fingers and hand need to be straightened out. So, on his own, he began using his left hand to work on those fingers. At first he got the fingers straightened out and then yesterday he managed to get the whole hand straighted out. It's amazing that something we take for granted, Matthew has to work hard at, but he is aware of what needs to be done and he's working as hard as he can.

Matthew also ate 12 strawberries yesterday. This is great because he hasn't been consuming noticeable amounts of food by mouth for about a month.

And the third thing I'd like to report is questionable about being a positive step (just kidding!!!). Matthew has begun to really focus on T.V. shows - he's not just staring at the screen with a blank look. He watched a show on the Discovery station this weekend and he paid attention to the program but would look away when the commercials came on. When the show returned, he focused back in on the show.

Today is Andrew's turn to see several doctors. He's been doing better since the bout with mono, but he tires easily. He's actually seeing the doctors today because a pain that he's had in his leg on the right side from the time of the accident has never gone away. Hopefully they can determine what the source of the discomfort is.

The Lord be with you this day!

My heart broke as I read the comments posted the last few days.
As a mother, I cannot imagine the pain, stress and heartache being felt by the Kurz family. And instead of rejoicing in the progress of their son and his future, a few choose to be hateful and spiteful. God chose this path for them. He knows the outcome for this family.

As people of a community, whether the community of Cole Camp or of the Lord's community, we need to express support for this family and all other families in crisis.

Many of you do not know me. And my relationship to the Kurz family is not important. What is important is there is a brilliant young man who's future, as he and his family saw it, drastically changed. They are doing the best they can with what God has given them. God has given them you, a community. Your dollars are not what is important. It's the smile you give to Lucas; the pat on the back to Timothy, the encouragment for Andrew or the acknowledgement that this situation could happen to anyone. Faith tells this family that the Lord will help them in every time of need. Wouldn't it be nice to know you have someone, a community, to lean on in times need as well?

Blessings to you all who have helped this family. I know there are many and work is so appreciated.

I just got home from a weekend trip, and read the comments following the 5/27 update. While I'm not saying I agree with the anonymous comments, I'm also not saying I disagree with them. As I said, I just got back from a weekend trip. This trip was to honor those fallen individuals who have given us the rights we have today. So whether we agree or disagree with the anonymous comments those people have a right to their opinion, and I'm proud to have been invited to the gathering I was because my father was a veteran who fought for the rights I enjoy!

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this,
like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you
could do with a few pics to drive the message home
a little bit, but instead of that, this is fantastic blog.

An excellent read. I will certainly be back.
