Update - 2/26/09

Greetings! Are you as anxious for spring as I am? I know Matthew is! He is looking forward to being outside much more. Matthew loves the outdoors. There's also hope that Matthew will be able to help his mother plant some flowers or tomato plants and help take care of them.

If you have re-read previous posts, I've mentioned many times that Matthew has been walking and doing so much better with balance. But each time I post that message, there is a new nuance to Matthew's abilities with walking. Those nuances may be minor for us, but they are major for Matthew. Just a few days ago, Matthew pulled himself up out of his chair ALL BY HIMSELF and walked four steps all on his own. That is TREMENDOUS!!! When he completed that, Matthew said "Boy, that was hard!" It is a lot of work for Matthew, but he continues to improve and do a little more each time. It used to be when Matthew got up out of his wheelchair, he could be described as standing up like an old man. Now he stands up just like you or me with strength and good balance.

The water therapy is incredibly helpful for Matthew. He can walk in the water 8 steps or so using his cane, and all by himself with no one hold onto him or assisting him. This has been a wonderful therapy for Matthew and has made a great difference in "waking up" the communication between Matthew's brain and his right side.

A few weeks ago Matthew got new glasses. His eyesight is so good that he no longer needs the large print bulletin at church. He can read the regular bulletin just fine.

In the last blog I mentioned that Matthew would soon have an email address. I'm sorry to tell you that is delayed a little longer. Hopefully by the next posting I'll be able to share his email address with you.

Blessed Lententide to you all!
